You Need to Clear Your Calendars for this Event
On September 9, 2017, there is an event coming to New Orleans that is unlike any event you have ever experienced or heard of. It is progressive, forward-thinking, and adventurous and involves body painting, disco dancing, culinary creations, and individual creativity….everything you need to create the perfect out-of-this-world party. You will only find this unique combination at Hadassah’s “Free the Tatas” Disco Ball.
Free the Tatas is a two-part event that will culminate with the Free the Tatas Disco Ball. The first part has already taken place and began with Paint Day where eighteen (18) models, who have all been touched by breast cancer, volunteered to have their torsos painted by local artists and then photographed. The models all have unique stories of survival and their personal fight against breast cancer. Each model had a different reason for wanting to be a part of the Free the Tatas Team which is why some will remain anonymous and just let the artwork on their bodies tell their stories. You will learn more about each model and artist each week leading up to the Free the Tatas Disco Ball.
What is Paint Day?
Paint day was made possible by everyone who gave their time, artistic ability, and supplies. The artists came to the Northshore Jewish Congregation to support the group from all over Louisiana. Prior to Paint Day, each artist met and interviewed their model to get to know them and to explore what types of images could capture and convey a personal story or message. Then, on Paint Day, the artists made the images come to life on a live body canvases. The Artists that participated include: Aidi Kansas, Madalyn Goff, Marilyn Cothren, Gretchen Armbruster, Tracey Hammill, Craig Tracy, Brittney Peloquin, Colleen Hickey, Teri Brasher, Aimee Farnet, Pam Soileau, Ben Benson, Jenny Bell Gremillion, Monica Kelly, Meghan Davis, Sarah Early, Emory Nolan,Lai Xiao and Susan Gisleson. All of the body paint supplies were donated by Vieux Carre Hair Shop and Mehron Makeup. “Makeup can transform someone into anyone and in this case it makes them feel beautiful inside and out and we are just happy to be a part of this extraordinary group of women making a difference,” said Lynn Highstreet from Vieux Carre Hair Shop. In addition, the models received massages from Michael Brown From Nirvana Massage. Each of these one-of-a-kind paintings was photographed by Hope Richard to be placed on canvases. The works of art (canvases) will not be revealed until the night of the Free the Tatas Disco Gala on September 9, 2017, at The Cannery.
Are you coming to the Disco Ball?
The Free the Tatas Disco Ball is going to be a special night filled with music, food, and one-of-a-kind art. The evening entertainment will begin with the Big Reveal where all of the canvases will be show cased for the first time to the artists, models, and everyone at the Ball. Party Goers will be wined and dined with cuisine provided by restaurants from all over town including Copelands, Kosher Cajun, Vincent’s Italian Cuisine, Lebanon Cafe, Baskin Robbins, and so many more. If that’s not enough, the disco music is sure to get you dancing all night long with Crescent City DJ and a live auction led by Chuck Mutz of the Black Tie Auctioneer. Plus, you can even expect to see Trixie Minx performing throughout the night. The Free the Tata’s Disco Ball is sure to be a night that will stand out from all others.

What is the purpose of this event?
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and support for Hadassah’s Breast Cancer and Genetic Research Programs including Breast Cancer Education, Advocacy and Prevention. Hadassah has been awarded 4 stars (93.31 out of 100) by Charity Navigator for directing the greatest number of dollars towards their mission with the least amount of administrative expenses (Click HERE for the Charity Navigator website). This year marks the centennial year for the New Orleans Hadassah Chapter which is sure to be a year to remember.
