The Shantel Lanerie Breast Cancer Foundation and The Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program are Partnering in 2022 To Benefit Women in Louisiana Racing

The SLBCF and the LBCHP have formed a partnership, effective February 1, 2021, to benefit women in Louisiana racing to help raise awareness and prevention of breast and cervical cancer. All women, employed in either Thoroughbred or Quarter Horse racing in the state of Louisiana, with a current Louisiana address, and who qualify, may be eligible for a no-cost mammogram and cervical screening test provided by LBCHP, in conjunction with the SLBCF.

The partnership is designed to help women in racing become more aware of the preventative procedures that can benefit both their personal health and well-being. It is a well-known fact that women, and men, in racing tend to take better care of their horses, than they do themselves.

The SLBCF, founded in September 2018, in honor of the late Shantel Lanerie who died from complications from chemotherapy from Stage 1 breast cancer, have so far helped 56 women from around the country with various stages of breast cancer.

The LBCHP, a staple in breast and cervical awareness, has been very important for no-cost mammograms and cervical screening tests for Louisiana women who qualify.

“We are extremely happy to form this great partnership with the LBCHP,” said Rick Mocklin, founder and president of the SLBCF. “This will allow women at every race track in the state to take the time for yearly checkups and screenings to make sure any problems are detected early, and dealt with, at no cost to them. This is an absolute win-win situation for Louisiana women in racing.”
